CATHERINE JOHNSON
ABOUT
As a content/art producer and visual editor based in New York City, my experience ranges from producing ads for super brands such as Nike and Ralph Lauren to working with non-profit organizations executing awareness campaigns. I also research and secure rights for imagery (photography, video, illustration, and graphics). Both commercial and non-commercial projects are enhanced when outstanding visuals are used to tell their stories.
After a brief time working at Vanity Fair magazine, I met the legendary British photographer Norman Parkinson. He was lecturing at the International Center of Photography. We talked, he kept my number, and the next thing I knew he asked me to work for him. The love and passion he had for creating imagery was infectious - so in truth-- thanks to him I found my vocation.
Producing or sourcing appropriate and targeted imagery is an art. I live by Warhol’s sentiment, “Making money is art and working is art, and good business is the best art.” This commercial awareness goes hand in hand with my gratitude for art’s protections under the first amendment and my appreciation for "art for art’s sake”.
When not working on productions, I have served as Chair of the Photography Committee and at present work with the Curatorial Committee at the National Arts Club, a non-profit organization founded in 1898 by the art and literary critic of The New York Times Charles de Kay. The club’s goal is to support public interest in all of the arts. I have produced exhibitions, panel discussions, and lectures. A highlight was an exhibition I organized for Magnum photographers celebration of their 70th Anniversary in New York City. I help to maintain the permanent extensive collection of American art owned by the club.
I am available to collaborate on any project that requires image/video creation or resourcing along with any and all of the logistics, procedures, process, contracts or anything else needed to produce your project. I make it happen!
